Con Valentía

So begins a bold new chapter in Johana and I’s life. We have left Europe, a place that we have loved living in for these past 2.5 years. We traveled across the ocean so I could introduce her to my family and my home state of Virginia. And now we are settling into this next chapter in Johana’s home in Montevideo Uruguay.

This past week now I’ve been exploring around the city, enjoying mate and asado, and practicing my Spanish. So far I really am enjoying this city. I can’t get enough of how colorful and full of life the city is. I can’t imagine living here for the next couple of months is going to be hard in a cultural adjustment sort of sense.

However, for months now I’ve battled with the idea of what exactly I’m going to be doing while I’m here. I know my self well enough to know that so much idle time is not a good situation for me. I need to stay active. So, I’ve already joined a gym, registered for a month of intensive group Spanish courses, plan to volunteer in any way I can around the city, and am going to work on a photography project (hello if you’ve found me though this.)

With all of this still, I know its not enough still. I believe all of these things can and will bring lots of good into my life. Maybe what I need? Maybe not? I’ve more or less accepted that I’m personally done with this lifestyle we’ve been living. I crave the next steps more then anything else, and now I am looking inward to find the path towards the courage required to make it happen.

So despite my overall strong position and plan. I still find myself battling a tremendous amount of anxiety as I try and figure out how to make it happen.

*Sigh*

I’m sure I’ll figure it out on the road ahead. It’s just a lot holding ambitious plans in mind and not seeing progress as fast as you wish it would come. I’m sure I still have a lot to learn.

Be it as it may. Like New York City, I’m 100% sure this will be an equal or greater catalyst for change in my life. How I’ll look at the end, or even in a couple of weeks is a mystery… and that’s how I like it.
