After having spent the entire summer at the Castle—not particularly happy and itching for so much more—these last 72 hours couldn’t have been more of a pleasure. My gut and heart tell me we’ve found a real gem here: Spanish Paradise…
We left the Castle on a good note. We said farewell to our friends and the family, and finally boarded the bus we had dreamt of all summer. We went straight to Vienna, where we wanted to visit our favorite café one last time. We wrote some postcards to our families, had a nice chat with an older traveling couple, and then headed straight to the airport for our flight to Barcelona.
The relief was immense when we felt the plane take off. Finally, the long summer is over—and a fresh start awaits us.
Spain
Arriving in Barcelona, the weather was a perfect 24°C, and Johana felt right at home being in a Latin country again after so long in the cold, Germanic north. We took a bus from the airport directly into the city, walked around for a bit looking for some water, and then got on our train to Girona.
In Girona, we took a cab up into the Gavarres Massif, where we’ll be helping to run another small family hotel. Upon arrival, we received the warmest welcome we could have asked for—a basket of food for the first few days, and a beautiful hotel room to stay in while we all work on renovating our new flat together.

The hotel really is Spanish paradise—unbelievable views, perfect weather, a pool, a big organic garden, and the warmest owners. This place was built with love and passion, and it’s very clear that it’s something special, straight from the heart. We’re very lucky to have found it, and we’re looking forward to adding our own magic to the mix here.
We aren’t far from Girona or anything else, either. It feels like there’s so much all around us in every direction. It’s so exciting! Girona is beautiful and has everything we could ever need or want. The beaches of the Mediterranean, the Costa Brava, are just as close in the other direction. France lies an hour to the north, and Barcelona an hour more to the south. Adventure is everywhere here!

The other day, Johana and I took some mountain bikes into the surrounding hills for a little joyride. Unfortunately, I took a bad fall and messed up my knee. So, much of this excitement will have to wait until I’ve had enough time to rest and heal.
Until then, I look out my window in awe of what lies ahead. Life is beautiful!
Gracias a Dios.
